​Gabor Maté has a great way of describing the effects of trauma. In this video he shows how difficult experiences in childhood where we have had to give up our authenticity can lead to us coping by developing addictions.

The Window of Tolerance is a great way of understanding what happens within our nervous system in different situations. My dissertation for the Master's in Psychology investigated the effect of knowledge of the Window of Tolerance on anxiety levels and found that there was a significant reduction in anxiety and increase in resilience when people understood this concept.
